Preservation of old St. Stephen Town Hall closer

Town Council in St. Stephen is waiting for the province and Ottawa to announce funding to save the old Town Hall.

The council voted 5-1 to enter an agreement with Heritage Developments Ltd. of Moncton to save the old municipal building which is a national heritage site. The town has agreed to put up $100,000 towards the $350,000 cost to stablize the building before winter. ACOA and the provincial Regional Development Corporation are expected to announce their shares soon, according to Mayor Allan MacEachern.
