Hole in covered bridge

Work on the Hammond River Bridge #2 is going to take longer than expected and will cost more after an accident yesterday.

An excavator hauling timber for the repair work crashed through the decking of the covered bridge and fell about 15 feet to the rocks and water. The operator managed to climb out on his own and wasn’t seriously injured. WorkSafeNB is investigating.

The next step is to figure out the best way to remove the excavator without doing further damage to the century old bridge on Route 860 about 10kms south of Hampton.
