Former Synagogue facing demolition
Former Synagogue facing demolition
The Carleton Street synagogue could be coming down soon.
Common Council has voted to designate the former synagogue and four other properties near Peel Plaza as surplus land, according to the Telegraph-Journal. It also directed staff to call for quotes on demolishing the building.
Mayor Don Darling said no other viable use was presented after a request for proposals…so now the city is looking at demolition. The city bought the former synagogue in 2008 for $500,000. It’s been paying $5,000 a month to heat it.
