Funeral Held for Elsie Wayne on Saturday

A funeral service for former Saint John Mayor and Progressive Conservative MP Elsie Wayne was held on Saturday. The service attracted a wide range of local and federal politicians to River Cross Church in Saint John. Jean Charest, the former Quebec PC MP and premier delivered the Eulogy. Bernard Lord, Peter MacKay and Senator Mike Duffy were among those in attendance. Wayne died in her home on Tuesday at the age of 84. Charest, who was Wayne’s only fellow Tory M-P after the 1993 federal election all but wiped out the party, called her “the all-time Canadian champion of lost causes.”
